- Mt. Morris Fire Responds to 3018 W. Camp Rd. for a Barn Fire -
At 07:03 hrs. Ogle County 911 received multiple calls for what appeared to be a structure fire East of Ridge Rd. and South of IL Ste Rte 64. A Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol in the area located a barn on fire at 3018 W Camp Rd. Mt. Morris Fire arrived on scene at 07:09 and found a barn measuring approximately 100’ x 50’to be well involved with fire. A portion of the barn roof had already collapsed. Mt. Morris Fire then requested a MABAS Box 14 to the 2nd alarm bringing additional resources from neighboring departments to assist. Firefighters were able to enter the barn and remove 8 Llamas. Two Llamas and several goats along with poultry did perish in the fire despite the firefighters efforts. Firefighters were obviously hampered by the cold temperatures and the narrow access to the area. Firefighter remained on scene until shortly after 11:00 AM. An investigation into the cause and origin of the fire was performed by Mt. Morris Fire and the Office of the State Fire Marshal. It was determined that the most probable area of origin was in the ceiling area of the main barn. The exact cause is still undetermined but it is believed the most probable cause was related to the use of a heat lamp used to keep livestock warm. Mt. Morris Fire was assisted at the scene by Byron, Dixon Rural, Forreston, Oregon and the Polo Fire Districts, and covering our empty firehouse was German Valley and the Stillman Fire Districts. Mt. Morris Fire would like to thank all that braved the cold for their help at this call.
